2025 Was a Rollercoaster

2025… What a year has been. Lots of things happened that I never thought would. 2024 was great. One of the best years I had when it comes to career, relationships, personal growth. So I tackled 2025 with the same mindset, but everything turned out so differently.

Be Adaptable

The year started of with job security concerns, which due to external factors, a big chunk of my current company’s revenue was cut off. This meant many roles were put at risk, mine included. I did not see this coming. I always thought I was “enough”, that my impact in the company was self-explanatory. Maybe it was ego taking over. I was lost. My mind went blank, but I knew I had to pick myself up and adapt. Emotions were everywhere, but I started updating my CV, applying for roles.

This has made the first quarter of the year super stressful. It taught me to always have a plan B, to adapt and pivot.

Things Happen For a Reason

Come June, something else hit. I got out of a long term relationship. One that I thought would last a life time. This really showed me that if it’s not meant to be, then you won’t be able to hold onto it. You can only do so much and at times and things happen for a reason. I would say this a lot to comfort myself, but there might be some truth to it.

Thankfully, time heals.

Discipline

Second half of the year, I felt demotivated. I felt lost, like I took a bunch of steps backwards. I kept using the events that happened to me as excuses for my bad habits — doomscrolling, not eating well, binge watching.

This is something I will definitely work on this year.

Darkest Before Dawn

Looking back, it wasn’t the smoothest year, but many good things also happened.

  • My brother got engaged in April
  • Tried outdoor climbing with a great group of friends in August
  • Became Senior BI Analyst in August
  • My parents moved to their dream house in August
  • Moved to a new apartment with my good friend in September
  • Finished my first half marathon in November
  • Took my parents to Serra da Estrela for the first time in December

I am also super grateful this year.

  • Grateful for my friends and family. I developed deeper connections and I am thankful to them for helping me during the tough times. Giving me company, advice, keeping me clear minded.
  • Grateful for the memories I got to make with some great people. Especially during my trips to the US, Greece, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand.
  • Grateful for where I am now, seeing how far I’ve come.

Looking forward to 2026. Wishing you all a great year ahead :)
